State scoring leader Johanna Scheer was nearly unstoppable as she led West Valley to four methodical wins at the West Valley Invitational Sept. 16-17 at the WVC Aquatics Center. The defending state champion Vikings (10-0) took advantage of big first half leads in all four games to rest starters and give substantial playing time and key experience to coach Erika Vargas's entire roster.

Scheer, who led the CCCAA in scoring in 2021, was a tsunami on offense, scoring 20 goals and moving to a state-best 44 on the season, despite sitting out almost half of three contests due to large WVC leads.

The Vikings opened Friday with a 13-12 win over SoCal power Long Beach (6-3). The final score was closer than it appeared after WVC led 7-3 at half and cruised to the win after a spirited LBCC fourth quarter rally. Scheer led the way with five goals, while Taylor Hendricks had three and Aaliyah Lax and Aiyana Mendoza each had two. Grace Smith and Remini Jadro played two quarters each in goal to split the win.

A 7-1 first quarter and 5-0 second boosted WVC to a 17-6 win over Ventura (5-2)in Friday's second game. Scheer found the back of the cage seven times, followed by Hannah Edwards with four, Lax with three and Kianna Melvin with two. Jadro was superlative in the cage, stopping 11 Pirate shots and claiming her second win of the season.

Saturday's 8am game against Mt. San Antonio (3-2) saw the Vikings race out to an 8-2 haltime lead and coast to a 12-7 victory. Scheer and Melvin each had four goals, followed by Lax with two. Jadro had nine saves to move to 3-0 in goal on the season.

The Vikings outscored San Diego Mesa 7-1 in the second quarter to take an 11-3 lead at the break on their way to a 13-6 win over the Olympians (6-2). Scheer again paced the stat sheet with four goals. Gaby Thomas finished a strong game with three scores, while Lax and Paige McCroskey each had two. Jadro picked up the win in goal.
