Vikings sink Pirates in NorCal playoff opener

Coast-South Player of the Year Sophie Ehret smacked 32 kills to lead West Valley to a 3-1 win over visiting Modesto Jr. College Saturday night. Ehret, however, didn't do it by herself. Francesca Zanotti dished out 47 assists (11.75 per set), Julia LaPierre had 12 kills and Jess Watanabe stroked five service aces. The 25-20, 25-21, 18-25, 25-16 victory sends the No.14 Vikings (15-12) to Stockton Tuesday (11/26) for a match against No.3 San Joaquin Delta (25-4).
Ehret's stat line also included a match-high 19 digs and two aces. Zanotti added eight digs and a pair of aces, while Watanabe came up with 18 digs. Jennifer Truong finished with 16 of WVC's 77 digs and Rowynn Funk finished with three of WVC's 14 service aces.
First serve at Tuesday's 2nd-round match is slated for 6:00pm.
