The West Valley volleyball team took on two of the north's top teams Saturday and returned to Saratoga with a split.

Freshman phenoms Sophie Ehret (18 kills, 13 digs) and Francesca Zanotti (34 assists), along with Alex Franklin (11 kills) and Taylor Vales (14 digs) elevated the Vikings (6-3) to a 25-15, 25-14, 25-16 sweep of host Folsom Lake (5-5) in the opener.  

WVC took the opening set 25-23 against defending state champion Feather River in the late tilt, but the Golden Eagles (12-3) stromed back to take the last three 25-14, 25-14, 25-19. Sydney Pista topped WVC with eight kills, while Zanotti handed out 23 assists and Vales came up with 16 digs.

The Vikings host San Jose City (2-2) Sept. 20 in the long-awaited home opener. First serve is 6:30pm.
