Sizemore sizzles in circle in WVC's 2-0 win at MPC
Amelia Sizemore spun a six-strikeout, four-hit shutout at MPC
West Valley stayed on top of the Coast Conference with a 2-0 eight-inning win at Monterey Peninsula Friday. WVC starter Amelia Sizemore was almost untouchable for seven innings in the circle. "Little Red" struck out six Lobos and scattered four singles before giving way to reliever Ashlie Nakano in the 8th. While the Vikings outhit MPC 10-4, it was what they did with the scoreboard reading 0-0 heading to the top of the 8th.
Rylee Gomez, as she has done often in 2025, provided the big blast in the 8th. Gomez ripped a triple that brought Gabriella Diotalevi home with what would prove to be the winning run. West Valley (31-2, 8-1 Coast) added an insurance run a batter later on a Jasmine Mixco shot back to the circle that was mishandled by MPC pitcher Amelia Visessio, allowing Gomez to come home for a 2-0 Viking lead. The Lobos (14-15, 3-6) would not be able to mount a threat in the home half of the 8th.
Diotalevi finished 3-for-4, while both Gomez and Jessalyn Casillas were 2-for-3, and Raylene Cruz stayed hot with a double. Sizemore improved to 6-1 on the season with her four-hit, six-K shutout. Nakano picked up her 2nd save of the year.
The Vikings stay on the road for two more this week. They head to Hayward Tuesday (4/8) to take on Chabot (2-27, 1-8) and then battle Ohlone (14-19, 2-6) Thursday in Fremont. First pitch for both games is 2:30pm.
