Vikings bats quiet in Coast loss to Ohlone
Kayla Gonzalez ripped an RBI single against Ohlone
West Valley batters spent most of Tuesday afternoon hitting shots right at Ohlone defenders, resulting in a 6-3 loss to the Renegades at Viking Field. It was WVC's first conference loss and dropped the Vikings to 16-4 overall, 2-1in the Coast.
West Valley jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Jasmine Mixco banged a leadoff single and came home on Andrea DeJesus's angry grounder down the third base line. Ohlone (9-8, 2-1) tied it with two runs in the top of the second.
The Vikings answered with a run in the bottom of the third to grab a 3-2 lead. After Larissa Higgins singled and stole second, Kayla Gonzalez ripped a laser back to the box and off Renegade pitcher Emma Ham's gloved that drove in Higgins with the go-ahead run.
The West Valley lead was short-lived as Ohlone put two on the board in both the fourth and the sixth. The Vikings tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the seventh. Pinch hitter Daniella Simon doubled to right with two outs, but Gonzalez popped to left, WVC's ninth fly ball out of the game, to end it.
The Vikings hit the road Thursday (3/7) for a 3:00pm game at Chabot (5-15, 0-4).
