Hostile Vikings eviscerate Chabot 19-1
Dre DeJesus drove in four, including this 3-run HR, in a 12-run fourth at Chabot
Apparently, the West Valley softball team plays better when it's angry. After going through the motions in an uninspiring 6-3 home loss to Ohlone Tuesday, the Vikings bounced back with a cathartic 19-1 five-inning dismantling of Chabot in Hayward Thursday afternoon.
The Vikings (17-4, 3-1 Coast) posted season highs in runs and hits (20) and sent 17 batters to the plate in a memorable 12-run, 11-hit fourth inning.
In that fourth inning, in no particular order, Jasmine Mixco had an RBI single and two-run double, Andrea DeJesus clubbed a three-run home run and an RBI single, Brianna Chambers Lee smoked a two-run double, Kayla Gonzalez hit an RBI single, and Alina Perez connected on a two-run single.
Meanwhile, Viking starter Miranda Torres was shutting down Chabot (5-16, 0-5), setting the Gladiators down in order in the first and second. Torres went the distance for the win, scattering five hits, striking out three and issuing no walks.
DeJesus finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored, while Mixco was 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Kayla Gonzalez went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and Keithleen Gonzalez was a perfect 3-for-3 with a pair of runs. Perez was 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs.
West Valley heads to Monterey Peninsula March 12 for a 3:00pm game against the Lobos (6-12, 0-3).
