Vikings rout Rams 9-1 behind Avila "haul"
Esme Flores (17) celebrates her 45-yard goal with Lauren Leal
Most soccer fans know three goals by a single player in a game is a hat-trick, but aren't familiar with the term used for a four-goal game. Amanda Avila recorded a "haul" Friday in West Valley's 9-1 win over Gavilan at Dick Schwendinger Field. Avila's outburst, all in the 1st half, gave her 21 on the season, just one score behind College of the Siskiyous Brooklynn Wade for the state lead. Additionally, Jaz Quach had a trio of assists, giving her a state 2nd-best 10 for 2024.
Scarlett Nisihura netted two goals, known as a "brace", and Andrea Gonzalez and Deanna Luna had one apiece. Esme Flores rocked the pitch with a 45-yard goal in the 6th minute.
The win kept the Vikings (10-4-1, 4-1-0 Coast-North) just a game behind leader City College of San Francisco (9-1-2, 3-0-1) in the Coast-North Conference standings. West Valley travels a couple exits up Highway 85 Tuesday (10/22) for its annual derby with De Anza (0-8-2, 0-2-1). Kickoff is 4:00pm.
