Avila adds 2024 U.S.C. All-America to her resume

After recording arguably the greatest season in West Valley women's soccer history, Amanda Avila was named to the United Soccer Coaches (USC) 2024 Divison III All-America 2nd Team, coach Fred Espinosa announced recently. Avila was also selected to the 2024 3C2A All-State team, was named the Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year, and was the state goal-scoring leader with 34.

The sophomore midfielder from San Jose's Presentation High School led the Vikings to a 15-6-2 record, the program's best mark since 2006, and a run into the second round of the NorCal playoffs. Avila had 10 game-winning goals, and her 10 multi-goal games included three four-goal games. She finished her Viking career with 61 goals, a total that may never be equaled or surpassed.

"Amanda was amazing to see play during her two seasons at West Valley," Espinoza said of his team captain. "Her tireless work ethic was an inspiration to her teammates. Her lead-by-example attitude was exactly what this team needed to be as successful as it was."

Avila finished 3rd in California in 2023 with 27 goals and began filling her trophy case with a plethora of postseason hardware: USC All-West Region, All-State, All-NorCal, Coast Player of the Year, All-Coast 1st Team. After two unprecedented years in Saratoga, Amanda Avila leaves behind a legacy of excellence sure to inspire future Vikings.

"She will be difficult to replace," Ezpinoza understatedly added.
