Vikings dominate Coast-South awards

West Valley swept the Coast-South Conference with a 12-0 mark on its way to a CCCAA #1 state ranking and a NorCal playoff top seed. Appropriately, the Vikings swept the recently announced All-Coast South postseason awards.

Elijah Mahi was named the Coast-South Most Valuable Player. Mahi, a 2023 All-State and All-Coast first teamer, averaged 17.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.4 assists and one steal per Coast contest. He shot 53.5% from the field, 40.9% from beyond the arc and 72.3% from the free-throw line.

Shakir Odunewu was named to the All-Coast First Team and was the Freshman Player of the Year. He led the conference in rebounding (8.7 RPG) and shooting percentage (72.3%). Additionally, he averaged 17.9 points, 1.1 assist and one block per game.

Baron Bracey earned All-Coast First Team and All-Defensive Team honors for the second straight season. He averaged 7.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. He shot 92.3% from the charity stripe to lead the Coast-South by a 4% margin.

Jeremiah Dargan picked up his second straight All-Coast First Team honor (he was also named to the 2023 All-Freshman team). Dargan averaged 11.6 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists and almost two steals in 12 Coast contests. He shot 48.6 from the field and 41.8% from beyond the arc.

Ariya Briscoe earned Honorable Mention accolades for the second consecutive season and was the Co-Defensive Player of the Year. He averaged 5.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and one steal per game. He shot 42.6%  from the field and led the Coast with a perfect 100% from the free-throw line.
