#1 Ranked Vikings (21-0) First Team In America To Reach 21 Wins, Defeats Gavilan 91-67
Saratoga, Calif. - The undefeated Vikings continue their historic season (21-0), closing out Wednesday evening with a 91-67 win over Gavilan College to pick up their 21st straight victory. West Valley will look to continue their (5-0) undefeated conference streak with just 7 conference games left on the season.
West Valley has remained the No. 1 seed with a 21-0 overall record, and the team remains first (5-0) in the Coast-South Conference. West Valley College Men's Basketball remains the only undefeated team in the state (per the 3C2A) and the first team to reach 21 wins in the country.
The Vikings shot 55 percent while holding Gavilan to just 37.5 percent, with four players finishing in double-figure scoring. Once again, it was Shakir Odunewu who led the way as he connected on 8-of-9 attempts for a game-high 19 points. The sensational sophomore also pulled down 6 rebounds and dished out 3 assists to help lead the team.
Jeremiah Dargan continued his high level of play by tallying 16 or more points for the third straight outing in conference play. Dargan scored 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, including a 3-of-5 mark from distance. His all around performance included three rebounds, four assists, and a game-high three steals.
Sophomore Forward Elijah Mahi scored 14 points and tallied 7 rebounds, three assists and a steal. Mahi shot 5-of-7 from the floor, including a 1-of-2 mark from three, and had an electrifying poster dunk in the second half to energize the home crowd and put a stamp on the blowout victory.
Freshman Jake Davis came up with 13 points in a solid performance on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor. Davis added on five rebounds, and two assists to his stat line while shooting 1-of-2 from deep.
West Valley finished the night 33-for-60 overall from the floor with 10 triples and beat the Rams on the boards at 32-25. The Vikings dished out 25 assists in the victory, their 4th most on the season.
The Vikings are back on the road Wednesday night (Jan. 31) to continue their undefeated season and will matchup against Foothill College. The game is set for 5 P.M. PT tip.
