Vikings run away from Feather River 84-68 to cap 13-3 non-league schedule
CJ Willenborg canned 16 points against Feather River
A Jake Davis three-pointer with :45 left in the opening half completed a 29-13 West Valley run to fuel an 84-68 win over Feather River in a much-anticipated battle of 12-win teams Friday night at Bob Burton Court. The Golden Eagles (12-5) grabbed a 17-16 lead at the 10:53 mark and were then engulfed by a West Valley tsunami that included nine points from Robel Zemmo and eight from Davis that gave the Vikings (13-3) an insurmountable 45-30 lead at the break. FRC closed to within 10 at 57-47 with just over nine minutes to go, but would get no closer.
Davis paced the Vikings with 17 points, followed by CJ Willenborg's 16. Caleb Asante finished with nine. Davis drained five of WVC's 14 treys, while Willenborg had four and Zemmo added two. The Vikings continued their torrid free-throw shooting - their 74.7 % was 6th in the state entering the game - with a 16-19 outing that included a 14-16 second half. Derrick Monroe led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 19 points, followed by Lance Haworth's 15.
The Vikings host Foothill (4-12) Jan. 8 in the Coast-South Conference opener for both teams. Tipoff is 5:30pm.
