#3 West Valley hosts #22 Reedley in the 3C2A NorCal Regionals
West Valley earned the north's #3 seed and will host #22 Reedley this weekend in the opening round of the 3C2A NorCal Regional Playoffs at Viking Park in Saratoga. The Vikings (30-10) rode a 17-game mid-season winning streak to its first Coast-South Conference championship since 2009 and the program's most wins since the 2008 final four team.
Leading the Vikings to a 16-4 league record were a sextet of Coast-South award winners. James Bose (IF), Jayce Dobie (P/UT), Colin Trizuto (P), Dylan Unangst (1B) and Karter Wong (OF) were named to the All-Coast 1st Team, while Alan Ramirez (DH) received 2nd team honors. Bobby Hill, in his first year at the Viking helm, was named the Coast-South Coach of the Year.
The Vikings feature one of the most explosive and productive offenses in the state. As a team, West Valley slashed (AVG/OBP/SLG) a state top-three .338/.434/.529. Their team average (.338) and slugging % (.529) were the state's 2nd best, while they finished the regular season ranked 3rd in the 3C2A in total bases (769), doubles (105) and extra base hits (167). They finished 5th in California in RBI (349), 7th in runs (377) and 9th in fielding % (.973).
The traditionally tough Tigers (26-14) finished 3rd in the competitive Central Valley Conference with a 13-11 mark. Steve Pearse has coached the Tigers since 2010 and is one of the winningest coaches (284, 18.9/YR) in NorCal history during that time. The playoff-experienced Tigers were 30-15-1 in 2023 and reached the NorCal Super Regional round.
The Vikings and the Tigers hit the field for game one Friday (5/3) at 2:00pm. Game two is scheduled for Saturday at noon, with game three, if necessary, slated to start 40 minutes after the completion of game two.
