Vikings blank Rams behind extra-base barrage
Ryan Lordier blasted a 2-run HR and an RBI double
West Valley took advantage of a break in the rain to blank visiting City College of San Francisco 10-0 Tuesday at chilly Valhalla Park.
The Vikings (12-6, Coast-South), ranked 3rd in NorCal in this week's CCBCA poll, outhit the Rams (6-9) 10-3. More importantly, four of those hits went for extra bases and accounted for seven RBI. Efficient hitting was the order of the day for WVC.
In contrast, it was a Dylan Unangst RBI sacrifice fly in the second inning that gave the Vikings the only run they would need. The WVC bats exploded an inning later.
Ryan Lordier clubbed his second homer of the year, driving in Gabriel Tapia and stretching the WVC lead to 3-0. Lordier struck again in the fourth with an RBI double to left-center, driving in Tapia again. Alan Ramirez continued the extra-base party, roping a double to right that scored Lordier.
In the sixth, Logan Stelling blasted a triple to right-center that knocked in Jayce Dobie and Lordier. That was after the Vikings opened the inning with a perfect double steal that had Lordier taking second and Tapia stealing home.
WVC capped the scoring in the seventh. Jason Kapi drew a bases loaded walk that brought Tapia home with his fourth run of the game.
Lordier finished the day 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored, along with a pair of stolen bases. Viking starter Sebastian Buller scattered a pair of hits and struck out five Rams in four innings of work. Enzo Chiavettone gave up one hit and registered two K's in three innings of relief. Will Pires came in for the final two innings and gave up no hits, while striking out one.
WVC hits the road Thursday (3/7) for a 2:00pm game at CaƱada (11-7) and returns home Saturday (3/9) for a big game against College of San Mateo (10-5). First pitch at Valhalla is 1:00pm.
