Brenda Tracy returns to WVC for 2023 MVP event
Posted: Aug 25, 2023
In 2018, Brenda Tracy brought her Set The Expectation program to the West Valley campus to kick off the 2018-19 school year. She returned this week with her expanded message of survival and hope at an emotional, inspiring and potentially life-changing 2023 MVP luncheon. Hundreds of West Valley student-athletes, coaches and administrators spent an hour and a half listening to and interacting with Tracy on the topics of sexual and domestic violence, mental health and how everyone in attendance could choose to be a part of the solution.
The annual WVC athletic department event featured Tracy and the harrowing story of her sexual assault by four Oregon State football players twenty-five years ago. Her story of survival has led to the formation of the Set The Expectation victim activism organization. Tracy travels the country full time speaking to high school and college athletic departments and professional teams, delivering a message that includes "no means no" and asking athletes to take the lead in modeling positive relationships. Information on Ms. Tracy is available at www.brendatracy.com.
WVC/Mission Community College District Chancellor Brad Davis, West Valley President Dr. Jennifer Taylor-Mendoza and Executive Director of intercollegiate Athletics John Vlahos also spoke at the event.
