Set-piece scores help Vikings blank Ohlone 6-0
Robin Hjelm advances the ball in 2nd-half action
Ricky Butron's brace paced the West Valley men's soccer team to a dominant 6-0 shutout of visiting Ohlone Tuesday afternoon. Butron's two goals bookended a strong offensive showing featuring scores from four other Vikings. The Vikings (7-4-0, 5-2-0 Coast-South) sit a half game behind De Anza (9-3-2, 5-1-1) in the conference standings with seven fixtures remaining.
Butron converted a 14th-minute free kick from just outside the box to give WVC the only goal it would need. He finished the scoring in stoppage time, burying a Richie Granados cross in the 90th minute. In between, a quartet of Vikings found the back of the goal.
Harnoor Sidhu, from Pavan Nawbatt, made it 2-0 at 38', and Ezra Echauri followed up his two-goal outing Friday at Las Positas with a free-kick score at 68'. Brian Diaz burried a Leo Palencia pass in the 83rd minute and then assisted on David Reyna's goal just before the end of regular time. Leo Godinez stopped all three Renegade shots to claim the clean-sheet win in goal.
The Vikings travel to Los Altos Friday (10/25) to take on Foothill (7-5-3, 1-3-2). Early kickoff is 1:00pm.
