Vikings silence Seahawks 3-1 in Aptos
Erik Moreno had a goal and an assist at Cabrillo Tuesday night
The West Valley men's soccer team brought home an important Coast Conference road win Tuesday at Cabrillo. The 3-1 win over the rival Seahawks (5-3-2, 2-1-0 Coast-North) kept West Valley (5-2-0, 3-0-0 Coast-South) perfect in conference action and secured a 2-0 season sweep of Cabrillo.
Pavan Nawbatt put WVC on the board two minutes in off an Erik Moreno assist. After Hector Gonzalez tied it up for Cabrillo in the 31st minute, a pair of Viking goals two minutes apart just before halftime lifted WVC to the win.
Brian Diaz, from David Reyna, blasted in the game-winner in the 43rd minute, and Moreno converted a Johan Granados feed in stoppage time. Moreno's tally was his team-leading 4th of 2024. WVC controlled the midfield in the 2nd half, and keeper Aria Afshar kept the Seahawks off the board. Afshar recorded five saves.
One of NorCal's toughest schedules continues Friday (10/11) when the Vikings travel to Skyline (8-2-0, 3-0-0 Coast-North). Kickoff is 3:00pm.
