Portisch powers Vikings past ARC and UC Merced
Phil Portisch (3) tallied 20 goals in four Aggie Roundup games
Phil Portisch lit up the scoreboard with 20 total goals at the Aggie Roundup at UC Davis, leading West Valley to wins over American River and UC Merced. The Vikings (6-2) also had good showings against NCAA D1 UC Davis and Cal and remained unbeaten against 3C2A schools with the win over ARC (2-1).
2nd-ranked WVC handed #4 ARC its first loss of the season Saturday with an 18-9 win behind seven goals from Portisch and an 8-2 3rd quarter. Sy Lazzaroni scored twice in the first minute to open the 3rd and a pair of Portisch scores extended WVC's 7-5 halftime lead to 12-7. Lazzaroni ended the game with his 3rd goal, this one on a power play, just before the horn. William McKeon stopped 14 ARC shots to pick up the win in the cage.
