Vikings slam Rams behind Anger hat trick
Colby Anger, here against Foothill, booked a hat trick at Gavilan
The West Valley men's soccer team blasted Gavilan 4-1 Tuesday in Gilroy behind Colby Anger's hat trick. The win kept the Vikings (9-4-2, 7-2-1 Coast-South) tied with rival De Anza atop the Coast-South Conference standings with three fixtures remaining on the regular season schedule.
Anger put the Vikings on the board 25 minutes in off a helper from Erik Moreno. Moreno, from Brian Diaz, made it 2-0 just before halftime. After the Rams (3-12-2, 0-8-2) climbed to within 2-1 with a 51st-minute tally, Anger lit up the scoreboard.
He converted a Ricky Butron feed at 55' and then pushed in a Richie Granados cross six minutes later to close out scoring.
Aria Afshar and Leo Godinez each spent a half in goal, with Afshar recording two saves and Godinez stopping the only Ram attempt he saw.
The Vikings take on Chabot (7-5-5, 3-3-4 Coast-North) Friday (11/8) in the second of three consecutive road contests for WVC. Kickoff is 4:00pm.
