After battling a flu bug and suffering a three-hit shutout to Marin, West Valley broke out Monday with a 13-4 President's Day win over Lassen at Valhalla. The Vikings (8-3) pounded out 12 hits, including six doubles - two each from David Estrada and Kai Laxa and one apiece from Andrew Bonfigli and Xander Sielken - and a two-run dinger from Carmelo Rivera. While West Valley spread out the scoring over five innings, it was a six-run, six-hit 2nd, after the Cougars (7-3-1) had grabbed a 3-1 lead, that lifted WVC to the victory.

Bonfigli started the scoring in the 2nd with a two-run double that brought home Isaac Hawthrone, who had walked, and Eric Altmark, who led off the stanza with a single. After Jordan Hall was plunked, Estrada doubled in Bonfigli and Hall for a 4-3 WVC lead. Rivera then knocked in Estrada with a shot past the scoreboard at right-center. The Vikings wouldn't need another run, but got some anyway, scoring twice in the 3rd and three times in a 4th inning highlighted by Laxa's RBI two-bagger. The 13-3 lead held up until Lassen's too-little, too-late run in the 8th.

Estrada finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs-scored, while Laxa and Sielken both went 2-for-4. Altmark joined Bonfigli, Estrada and Rivera in the two-RBI club. Starter Brandon Ashley took advantage of the six-run 2nd to claim the pitching win.

The four-game Valhalla homestand continues today (2/18) against 11-0 Santa Rosa Jr. College and Thursday (2/20) vs. Cosumnes River (9-2). First pitch Thursday is 2:00pm.
