Jordan Montez launched a 4th-inning homer against the Mountain Lions

West Valley starter Julian Ito was almost untouchable for six innings and Jordan Montez blasted a 4th-inning solo tater to lead the Vikings to a 5-0 shutout of crosstown rival De Anza Saturday at Valhalla.

The lightning-fast 2:07 game featured nine Viking hits, including four doubles - two from Kai Laxa and one each from Kenji Colston and Xander Sielken - and the Montez bomb. Ito set the Mountain Lions (10-6) down in order in the 2nd, 4th and 6th, and scattered just three singles to improve to 2-1 on the year.

Laxa finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Montez was 2-for-4 with that long-ball RBI.

The Vikings (11-6) take on City College of San Francisco (4-10) at the University of San Francisco Tuesday (3/4) and then return to Valhalla Thursday (3/6) for a battle with the Colts of CaƱada (9-7). First pitch for both games is 2:00pm.
