West Valley Athletics Spreads Holiday Cheer Through Toy Drive
West Valley College's athletic community came together this holiday season to make a meaningful impact through a toy drive in partnership with the Good Tidings Foundation, a Bay Area nonprofit dedicated to supporting youth through opportunities in athletics, the arts, education, and community enrichment. Student-athletes from across the Viking teams collected new, unwrapped toys to help bring joy to children and families in need throughout the region. With friendly competition adding to the spirit of giving, the Women's Soccer Team, coached by Fred Espinoza, emerged as the top contributors, collecting the most donated toys and setting an inspiring example of leadership and service both on and off the field.
The Good Tidings Foundation, founded in 1995 and based in Burlingame, began with a simple holiday toy drive and has since grown into a well-established 501(c)(3) charity that annually gifts tens of thousands of toys to children through its Winter Wonderland program while also creating lasting community resources. Beyond toy distribution each December, Good Tidings partners with professional teams, athletes, and artists to build and refurbish athletic and arts facilities in underserved neighborhoods, award scholarships to motivated students, and provide other programs that help young people thrive regardless of their background or financial means. Their mission centers on offering children environments where they can play, create, dream, and grow — making them a natural partner for West Valley College's community service efforts.
