Vikings sweep Lemoore in home opener
Julia LaPierre (12) and Lavelua Stepp reject a Lemoore attempt
After spening the entire first month of the season on the road taking on some of the 3C2A's top squads, the West Valley volleyball team finally took to the floor at Bob Burton Court in Saratoga. Last Friday's home opener against Lemoore showed all the road matches against eight top 25 teams paid off. The Vikings (4-9) were dominant in all phases in their 25-16, 25-18, 25-7 sweep of the Golden Eagles (5-5).
West Valley hit at a .385 clip, led by Rowynn Funk (.556), Francesca Zanotti (.538), Sophie Ehret (.409) and Julia LaPierre (379). LaPierre was a force at the net in all three sets, ending up with a match-high 13 kills. Ehret followed with ten kills, along with 17 digs and a solo block. Zanotti had 26 assists, five digs, an ace and a block, and Jennifer Truong had 21 digs and a match-high three aces. Sianalai Tautolo was strong in rotation, finishing with 13 assists and three digs, while Ashjeet Kaur had two service aces and nine digs. Funk and Stepp each had three of WVC's eight solo blocks.
The Vikings wrap up their non-conference schedule Friday (9/20) at Butte (1-11) and then host Monterey Peninsula (7-1) Sept. 25 in the Coast Conference opener. First serve is 5:30pm.
