The West Valley women's soccer team had their chances Friday, outshooting Evergreen Valley 7-4, but couldn't convert in a 0-0 draw with the Hawks at Dick Schwendinger Field. The tie kept the Vikings (11-4-2, 5-1-1 Coast-North) within striking distance of Coast-North leader City College of San Francisco (12-2-2, 6-1-1) and percentage points ahead of 3rd-place Skyline (10-3-3, 5-1-2) with four fixtures to play.

The Vikings dominated time of possession throughout, and had four close-range scoring opportunities go awry in the first half, including a rocket from leading scorer Amanda Avila that took out its anger on the crossbar, narrowly missing what would have been her 26th tally of 2024. The WVC defense continuously disrupted the EVC attack and goalkeeper Nevaeh Reyes kept the Hawks (6-6-5, 5-0-3 Coast-South) off the board for her 7th clean sheet and 11th win of the season.

WVC will spend election eve in Aptos for its annual Highway 17 derby with Cabrillo (5-10-1, 2-3-0). Kickoff is 7:30pm.
