Vikings Battle to 1-1 Draw at Fresno
FRESNO - The Vikings were looking to rebound on Tuesday afternoon in Fresno following their heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Canada Saturday at home. Their efforts led to a 1-1 draw.
Another chippy match for West Valley once again resulted in multiple yellow cards in the first half without a score.
It wasn't until the 62nd minute that someone finally put one in the back of the net. Fresno's Santana Mercado scored the first goal of the match to put the Rams ahead.
Not too long after, West Valley's sophomore Erick Villasenor answered for the Vikings on his first goal of the season in the 73rd minute. Ezra Echauri had the assist on the Viking goal that tied the game.
Both offensive runs stopped there and neither team could break the tie through the last 17-plus minutes. The Rams and Vikings tied 1-1 putting the Vikings overall record at 1-1-2.
WVC will have the longest gap (11 days) between games to get fresh for their next matchup in Saratoga.
Next game: Saturday, September 20 vs. Folsom Lake 12:00pm
