Avila scores four more to help Vikings slam Seahawks
Amanda Avila had her 3rd four-goal game of 2024 at Cabrillo
The nonpareil Amanda Avila posted her third four-goal outing in four games to lead West Valley to a dominant 5-1 win over Cabrillo Tuesday in Aptos. Avila's eighth multi-goal game of 2024 gave her a state 2nd-best 29, one behind College of the Siskiyous' Brooklynn Wade.
Avila, from Laura Hernandez, put WVC (12-4-2, 6-1-1 Coast-North) on the board at 17' and then made it 2-0 two minutes later off a Jaz Quach helper. Cabrillo (5-11-1, 2-4-1) closed to within 2-1 with a 32nd-minute goal, but Avila and Quach sealed the win for the Vikings with brilliant second halves.
Avila converted a Hernandez pass for her 3rd tally at 56' and then assisted on a Quach score five minutes later. Lauren Leal fed Avila for the final goal in the 86th minute. Keeper Nevaeh Reyes stopped eight Seahawk shots to improve her 2024 record to 12-3-1.
West Valley heads to Hartnell Friday (11/8) for a crucial game against the Coast-South-leading Panthers (11-3-4, 6-1-1). Kickoff in breezy Salinas is 3:00pm.
