The West Valley women's water polo team proved to be inhospitable hosts at last weekend's West Valley Invitational, going 4-0 against two NorCal and two SoCal teams. The Vikings (6-3), ranked 4th in the latest CCCWPCA state poll, opened Friday with a 14-7 win over #8 Cuesta and then rallied past Merced 11-10. They topped Ventura 16-6 Saturday morning and then closed out the tournament with a 10-4 victory over Modesto.

Anastasija Koreni, Sofia Orlandi Lazzarini, Mia Sickler-Lopez and Marte Skibba each had three goals against Cuesta (8-5), while Bella Raynes had two. Skibba had five steals, while Raynes and Sickler-Lopez had four apiece. Kayla Tweed stopped 11 Cougar shots to claim the win in goal.

The Vikings found themselves down 10-7 to Merced with just under five minutes to play in Friday's late game. Four unanswered goals, two each from Orlandi Lazzarini and Athena Campos rallied the Vikings past the Blue Devils (5-5).

An 7-0 WVC 3rd quarter keyed the 16-6 win over a good Ventura side. Raynes found the back of the cage a game-high five times, and Orlandi Lazzarini had four. Skibba had a trip of goals and steals, while Sickler-Lopez came away with four steals. Tweed recorded 11 saves.

WVC ended the weekend with a methodical 10-4 victory over Modesto (5-4). Ava Grays led the scoring with a pair of goals, while Grace Appler, Annelise Escobedo and Madiha Smallcombe each scored their first collegiate goal.
