West Valley held a 6-3 lead through seven innings, but surrendered six runs to host Cosumnes River in the home half of the 8th to fall to the Hawks 9-6 in Sacramento Friday. WVC (9-5) split the two-game series with CRC (10-3) and will travel to Cañada Tuesday (2/25) for a non-conference contest against the Colts (7-6).

Colin Spear hit his team-leading 6th home run Saturday to give WVC a short-lived 2-0 lead in the 3rd. CRC (10-3) countered with three in the bottom of the 3rd, but West Valley added one run in the 4th and three in the 5th for that 6-3 lead. The Hawks posted the six-spot in the 8th to rally for the 9-6 win.

Kai Laxa had a pair of doubles and two RBI, while Spear finished 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs-scored. Tysen Ellis took the pitching loss.

Thursday's game at Valhalla was the exact opposite of Saturday's contest. The Vikings pounded out 12 hits and exploded for seven runs in the 7th for a dominating 10-1 win over the Hawks. West Valley starter Nico Wagner (3-1) stymied CRC in seven innings of work, striking out seven and scattering four hits.

The Vikings grabbed a 1-0 lead on Isaac Hawthrone's 2nd-inning RBI single that knocked in Spear. Xander Sielken made it 3-0 in the 3rd with a two-run double to the right-center fence that brought home Carmelo Rivera and David Estrada. West Valley put it away with a seven-run 7th highlighted by two-run doubles from Estrada and Eric Altmark, RBI-singles from Hawthrone and Kenji Colston and a run-scoring SAC fly from Laxa. CRC put up a too-little, too-late run in the 8th for the 10-1 final.

Colston, Hawthrone, Rivera and Sielken all had two-hit outings, and Altmark, Estrada, Hawthrone and Sielken drove in two runs each.

First pitch at Cañada is 2:00pm.
