Sophie Ehret dives for an up against Gavilan
After falling to undefeated Fresno City, West Valley salvaged a Coast Conference split with a 5-0 sweep of Gavilan Friday at the West Valley Beach Volleyball Complex. The Vikings (5-10, 4-5 Coast) didn't drop a set against the Rams from Gavilan (0-15, 0-9), and their match against the Rams from Fresno City (20-0, 10-0) featured the best match of the day.
The WVC/Fresno City 1's battle featured two of the top pairs in NorCal: West Valley's Sophie Ehret and Francesca Zanotti and Fresno's Lusa Andrews and Phoebe Constable. Andrews/Constable took a hard-fought 21-17 first set, but Ehret/Zanotti responded with a 21-17 mirror-image second set. The pairs went toe-to-toe in the third with both fighting off match points until Andrews/Constable escaped with a 16-14 win.
The Vikings continue their Coast schedule with April 2 home matches against College of San Mateo (3-14, 2-7) and De Anza (5-15, 2-7). First serves are 10am and noon, respectively.
