Arbuckle, Viking pitchers silence Ohlone

As the verbal sparring once again plagued a West Valley vs. Ohlone contest, Tyla Arbuckle decided to take matters into her own hands, or, more appropriately, her feet. The Vikings' lightning-fast leadoff hitter consistently out-ran the Renegade defense, reaching on a trio of infield singles and scoring a pair of runs in WVC's 3-1 Coast Conference win in Fremont. The Vikings (33-2, 10-1 Coast) silenced the Renegades (14-21, 2-8) for the second time this season and remained alone atop the Coast standings.

The Vikings went up 2-0 in the top of the 3rd on a Rylee Gomez groundout to 2nd that knocked in Gabriella Diotalevi, and a Brianna Chambers Lee RBI-fielder's choice that brought home Arbuckle with what would prove to be the winning run. The Renegades added an unearned run on a passed ball in the 4th that made it 2-1.

Arbuckle reached on a bunt single to open the 5th and moved to 2nd on her state-leading 42nd stolen base. Andrea DeJesus traded places with Arbuckle two pitches later, smacking a double to left that lifted the Vikings to a 3-1 lead. Ohlone was unable to mount a threat in any of the last three frames.

West Valley pitchers were in control from the first out to the last. Starter Anastasia Marquez gave up two singles and struck out three in four innings to improve to 5-1. Reliever Ashlie Nakano was equally solid, scattering a pair of singles and recording three K's in three innings in the circle. Arbuckle finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two stolen bases. Jasmine Mixco ripped a triple to the fence at left, and DeJesus and Alexis Bojorquez-Nava both recorded doubles.

The Vikings return to Viking Field after going 3-0 on two-week road trip, welcoming Highway 17 rival Cabrillo (4-29-1, 1-10) to Saratoga April 15. First pitch is 3:00pm.
