WVC alone atop Coast-South after 2-0 win at Chabot
Johan Granados had a 55th-minute goal at Chabot
West Valley's 2-0 blanking of Chabot Friday, combined with De Anza's loss at Hartnell, propelled the Vikings into 1st place in the Coast-South Conference with two fixtures left. The Vikings (10-4-2, 8-2-1 Coast-South) head to Monterey Peninsula (2-14-2, 2-8-0) Tuesday (11/12) and then close out the regular season Friday (11/15) at Dick Schwendinger Field with a derby against De Anza (11-5-3, 7-3-1).
Harnoor Sidhu, from David Reyna, gave the Vikings the only goal they would need in the 44th minute. Johan Granados then converted a Colby Anger pass into a 55th-minute insurance goal. The Viking defense and keeper Aria Afshar took over from there and kept the Gladiators (7-6-5, 3-4-4 Coast-North) off the board. Afshar stopped all three Chabot attempts to earn the win in goal.
The Vikings and the Mountain Lions kick off Friday at 12:30pm.
