Vikings shut out Owls in Coast opener
Ximena Heredia booted her 1st collegiate goal at Foothill Friday
The West Valley women's soccer team weathered the triple-digit heat with a 4-0 blanking of Foothill in Friday's Coast Conference opener in Los Altos. Four different Vikings scored and goalkeeper Nevaeh Reyes claimed her fourth clean sheet of 2024.
For the 3rd-consecutive game, the Vikings (7-3-1, 1-0-0 Coast) got on the board inside the opening five minutes and never trailed the Owls (6-3-0, 0-1-0). Amanda Avila, from Jaz Quach, buried the ball in the back of the net 45 seconds in with the only goal WVC would need, her 12th of the year. Laura Hernandez made it 2-0 in the 7th minute off a Katherine Meck helper, and the first-half onslought continued with an unassisted Andrea Gonzalez tally in the 18th minute and a Quach-assisted score from Ximena Heredia, her 1st collegiate goal, at 27'.
Reyes turned away all three Owl shots-on-goal to improve to 7-2-1 on the year.
The Vikings travel to Livermore Oct. 8 to take on Las Positas (4-5-1, 0-1-0). Kickoff is 6"30pm.
