Vikings make history with gritty championship run in record-breaking postseason
West Valley College baseball capped off the most successful season in program history with a hard-fought, 13-inning showdown in the 3C2A State Championship game, ultimately falling 8–5 to Mt. San Antonio College. The Vikings concluded the 2025 season with a 40–13 record and earned second place in the state, marking their second straight top-three finish in California.
Making back-to-back appearances in the 3C2A state tournament, the Vikings showed the heart, talent, and toughness that defined their historic playoff run. In the championship game, David Estrada led the offense with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate, including two doubles and two runs scored. Xander Sielken delivered in clutch moments, going 2-for-6 with three RBIs, while Eric Altmark added three hits, an RBI, and a double of his own. Kai Laxa went 2-for-6 and played stellar defense at shortstop, and catcher Drew Dillehay added an RBI single.
West Valley racked up 15 hits on the day and made a dramatic comeback with a three-run eighth inning to take a 5-4 lead heading into the ninth inning. A leadoff home run by the Mounties to start the ninth inning would send the game to extra innings. Six Viking pitchers combined to keep Mt. SAC at bay, including strong relief work from Brandon Ashley and Sebastian Buller.
Ultimately, Mt. SAC broke through in the 13th, but the Vikings' fight never faded. This group's effort and resilience cemented its place in West Valley history. With 40 wins, a state runner-up finish, and the program's deepest postseason run ever, the 2025 Vikings have set a new bar for success.
Back-to-back state tournament appearances and a second-place finish in California — this was a championship-caliber season that will be remembered for years to come.
