Harnoor Sidhu's left foot sent a lazer just inside the near post from the top of the box to lift West Valley to an important 2-1 win over #9 Cañada Friday at Dick Schwendinger Field. Sidhu's 88th-minute game-winner came on the heels of Seena Shanazi's equalizer at 77'. Pavan Nawbatt played a huge role in the late-game heroics with assists on both goals.

The Vikings (4-2-0, 2-0-0 Coast-South) spent most of the opening half on the Cañada side of the pitch, but weren't able to convert numerous scoring chances. To complicate matters for WVC, the Colts (4-2-3, 0-2-0 Coast-North) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute with a Daniel Schembri (Vlad Tomutiu) goal. West Valley kept the pedal to the medal in the 2nd half and it paid off with the Shanazi and Sidhu scores.

Goalkeeper Aria Afshar keyed a solid Viking defensive effort with four saves to earn the win.

West Valley travels to Aptos Oct. 8 for a Highway 17 derby against Cabrillo (4-2-2, 2-0-0 CN). Kickoff is 7:30pm.
