2nd-half Zemmo treys lift Vikings past Seahawks
Robel Zemmo soars for a 2nd-half bucket
The scorebook will show four crucial second-half three-pointers from Robel Zemmo. What the book doesn't show is a relentless West Valley defense that produced nine steals and kept Cabrillo off balance all night. The result: a 78-63 West Valley win in a battle of 3-0 Coast-South teams at the Adobe Palace in Aptos Wednesday night.
The Vikings (17-3, 4-0 Coast-South) held the Seahawks (11-9, 3-1) to three points in the last seven minutes of the opening half to grab a 34-27 lead at the break. A 28-15 West Valley second-half run, including 12 points from Zemmo and eight from Jake Davis from 15:25 to 7:06, gave WVC an insurmountable 62-42 advantage.
Zemmo canned 15 points after the break on his way to a team-high 23 points, while Davis struck for 11 to finish with 18. Caleb Asante recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
West Valley stays on the road Friday (1/24) with a game against Hartnell (3-17, 2-2) in Salinas. Tipoff is 7:00pm.
