The West Valley women's soccer team came out as hot as the near-100 degree weather in Saratoga Tuesday, racking up four first-half goals en route to a 5-0 blanking of Clovis College in the 2024 season opener at Dick Schwendinger Field. It took only 1:56 for Andrea Gonzalez to punch in what would prove to be the winning goal off the first of back-to-back assists from Melissa Arellano. Arellano found 2023 leading scorer Amanda Avila at 10:43 and the rout was on.

Jaz Quach notched her first collegiate goal in the 17th minute when she richocheted a corner kick into the net off Crush keeper Ana Reyna. Deanna Luna made it 4-0 just before intermission when she drove in a Katherine Meck pass at 41:23. Scarlett Nisihura closed out the scoring in the 67th minute, lifting a Luna pass over the head of Clovis GK Kaylen Guerra. Viking netminder Nevaeh Reyes improved her WVC career record to 3-0, stopping all six Crush attempts.

West Valley (1-0-0) makes its annual sojourn to Ventura College for the 2024 New Balance Showcase Aug. 29-31. The Vikings take on Orange Coast (0-0-0) 8/29 at 1:00pm and Rio Hondo (1-0-0) 8/31 at 9:30am.
